Simply add a few drops and you are sure to enjoy a soothing bath as it exudes its earthy, musty smell.
In general, Vetiver is perfect for easing deep-seated anxiety, depression, and other stress-related conditions. By serving as a ‘grounding’ agent, it can assist in bringing stability to weary individuals who are facing life’s challenges and adversities.

Vetiver Essential Oil Side Effects

Vetiver essential oil does not seem to produce any side effects, but like many essential oils, it is not recommended for use with pregnant women or children. Some essential oils may cause irritation or allergic reactions in people with sensitive skin so it is wise to do a patch test before using regularly.

An excellent and accurate article by Richard Webb. I have been using vetiver grass to control soil erosion on various Pacific Islands for almost 20 years and have yet to discover any problem associated with it. The vetiver grass plantings have made very positive impacts on coral reef sedimentation while also allowing the restoration of indigenous forest on the worst types of gully erosion.
Check out:http://www.vetiver.org/VAN_REEF/VAN-reef2.htm for further details. An email address is included there if further information is needed. I will be happy to forward a higher definition version of that presentation.

Ref: vetiver and infiltration. The standard practice in Ethiopia for soil and water conservation has generally been through the use of terraces known as “fanyaju”. This has led to many problems not least the habit that they provide for rodents. Over the past 20 years Ethiopian wetlands have dried up. following the introduction of vetiver hedges there has been significant improvement in wetland restoration dues to vetiver’s capacity to improve rainfall infiltration. These changes are so significant that the Ethiopian Wetland Association is one of the leading promoters of watershed stabilization using vetiver. There is an interesting article at:http://www.vetiver.org/ETH_WORKSHOP_09/ETH_A2a.pdf

Coconut oil generally has no unhealthy side effects

  Dr. Trudie Bartholomew | June 29, 2012 at 5:59 pm | Reply
I used coconut oil for ms. Together with a diet of healthy raw foods, lots of water minimum dairy, no meat, very little fish, no sugar, my thyroid, heart problem, cholesterol and general health was fixed! Dr.Trudie Bartholomew

*Coconut oil generally has no unhealthy side effects, so it can be used as often as needed and for as long as the applicant finds necessary.
*We are talking about pure, virgin coconut OIL here, not coconut flakes, water and the like.
* A little bit goes a loooong way with coconut oil.
Health
  1. Lubricant. Yes, you know what I’m talking about.
  2. Sun treatment. After being out in the sun coconut oil is known for soothing the skin, as is aloe vera. Coconut oil has great antioxidant properties and helps heal the cells and tissues. Because of the lipid barrier (a layer of fat) that it provides over your skin, it locks in moisture and blocks some of the sun’s damaging rays.
  3. Lice treatment
  4. Research shows that it boosts metabolism and energy. ” In the l940s, farmers attempted to use cheap coconut oil for fattening their animals, but they found that it made them lean, active and hungry” and ” G. W. Crile and his wife found that the metabolic rate of people in Yucatan, where coconut is a staple food, averaged 25% higher than that of people in the United States. In a hot climate, the adaptive tendency is to have a lower metabolic rate, so it is clear that some factor is more than offsetting this expected effect of high environmental temperatures. The people there are lean, and recently it has been observed that the women there have none of the symptoms we commonly associate with the menopause.”
  5. It is an anti-infammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-viral substance for the body  – especially in the gut and Crohn’s disease. Read more.
  6. It can help hypothyroidism and thyroid function, especially when coconut oil replaces the use of unsaturated fats. This combination will increase enzyme production and promote the conversion of T4 to T3 hormones in the liver.
  7. Stress relief. Massage into your forehead and around your temples, the smell is very soothing and the health benefits plentiful.
  8. Protects against heart attacks, atherosclerosis, high blood pressure and strokes. Heart disease, stroke, and atherosclerosis account for nearly HALF of all the deaths in the United States. Coconut oil and its medium chain fatty acids (MCFA), especially lauric acid, destroy both the bacteria (Helicobacter pylori and Chlamydia pneumonia) and viruses (cytomegalovirus) that are most commonly associated with atherosclerosis. In Sri Lanka, where coconut oil has been the primary dietary fat, the death rate from heart disease has been among the lowest in the world.
  9. It helps diabetes and stabilizes blood sugar levels by encouraging the secretion of insulin from the pancreas. Read more and more.
  10. Increases bone and teeth strength. Coconut Oil improves the body’s ability to absorb minerals such as calcium and magnesium, which are needed for the development of bones.
  11. Coconut oil can be used as a kind of liquid bandage because of its antimicrobial and antiviral properties. Application of coconut oil accelerates the process of wound healing. It is very safe to apply on small cuts and wounds. Apply it to an infection and it will form a chemical barrier and help heal your wounds. It can also be applied on bruises to help speed the healing process.
  12. Reduces the tendency to form blood clots .
  13. HIV and Cancer – it is thought that coconut oil may help HIV and cancer sufferers become less susceptible to viruses.
  14. Helps candida/yeast infections.
  15. Helps digestive problems and regulates bowel movements.
  16. Chronic fatigue and fibromayalgia
  17. Lowers cholesterol. Natural, nonhydrogenated coconut oil tends to increase HDL cholesterol and improve the cholesterol profile. HDL is the good cholesterol that helps protect against heart disease.
  18. Has the potential to treat skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis.
  19. The antifungal properties of coconut oil can also be used to prevent foot fungus like athletes’ foot, and treat ringworm and diaper rash.
  20. Coconut oil’s anti-inflammatory properties make it a treatment option for the pain and itching of hemorrhoids.
  21. Strengthens the body’s immune system.
  22. Massaging foot with coconut oil helps to soften cracked heels and increases the beauty of the foot.

Coconut Cream
That said, one of the little dairy-free trends that has been oh-so-trendy has also become a staple in my kitchen when making dessert for large gatherings of people — coconut whipped cream.  Vegans love it, dairy-free friends love it, and normal-whipped-cream-eating friends also love it.  But I realize I’ve never posted about it on here before, so I thought I would add to the myriad of coconut loving posts online right now and share a quick tutorial for those who want to learn how to make it.
Refrigerate overnight: No shortcuts here (that I’ve found).  If you want fluffy coconut whipped cream, you must refrigerate your can of coconut milk for at least 18-24 hours before using it.
How To Separate Out The Cream: Once your can has been refrigerated for a day, remove it from the fridge and immediately open the can.  The thick/solid coconut cream should have separated to the top, while the coconut water is on the bottom.  Use a spoon and scoop out the coconut cream, and then use your coconut water for a different recipe (I usually toss mine in a smoothie).  The coconut cream is what you will use to make the whipped creamHow To Make Coconut Whipped Cream -- grab a can of coconut milk and join the party! | gimmesomeoven.com #vegan #diy

Body cleanse and detox diet tips for beginners

How does detoxification work?

Basically, detoxification means cleaning the blood. This is done by removing impurities from the blood in the liver, where toxins are processed for elimination. The body also eliminates toxins through the kidneys, intestines, lungs, lymph and skin. However, when this system is compromised, impurities aren't properly filtered and every cell in the body is adversely affected.

Love is happy when it gives comfort to someone..(dhamma padaya)

If for company you cannot find a wise and prudent friend who leads a good life, then, like a king who leaves behind a conquered kingdom, or like a lone elephant in the elephant forest, you should go your way alone (per lord buddha)

How to Be Happy Alone:

He who sits alone, sleeps alone, and walks alone,
who is strenuous and subdues himself alone, will
find delight in the solitude of the forest.

healthy mind  rejects suffering within. therefore individual breakaway from others
who are heading different directions for their happiness. win win situation brings harmony  and happiness to all.  (thoughts govern the universe.it changes our destiny for good)
Try doing things that you’ve never done before. Try not to have your guard up and be open to all possibilities; you don’t know that you won’t like something until you’ve tried it.
A great way to step out of your comfort zone is to go somewhere and do something new and fun each week.Another great thing about being alone is that no one is there to say no or disagree with your plans.
When you start experiencing new things, places and events, you will probably be meeting new people and make some new friends. This may seem difficult at first if you are shy but putting yourself in other people’s shoes might help. Remember that it may be hard for someone else to make friends too and you could be that one person that could help someone else out.
Remember to do things that benefit your inner-self and not for the purpose of finding “someone.” There shouldn’t be any pressure to look at people romantically.
Stepping out of your comfort zone and trying new things can lead to new friends and amusing experiences. It all starts with you smiling and saying hello to someone else. Try saying hi with a smile when you’re at the grocery store, while you’re walking down the street, when you’re meeting someone for the first time at a party, etc.
Whatever the situation is, just try to put yourself out there and you’ll gain more confidence over time, eventually this will turn into a new habit. Seeing other people smile is also contagious so if you start the smile train, others will reciprocate and you will both be in great moods.
A good way to keep yourself out of your comfort zone is to try a 30 day habit every month. Make sure to try new things, experiment and do things you might not do otherwise. You may even find some great habits you want to keep forever.

(ref to lord buddha's advise to first 60 arahath theros.) we are all different to each other.
There never was, there never will be, nor is therenow, a person who is wholly blamed or wholly praised.
But the man whom the wise praise, after observing him day after day, is one of flawless character, wise, and endowed with knowledge and virtue

Find happiness within your self

rice milk.jpg

Hunger is the worst disease, conditioned things
the worst suffering. Knowing this as it really is,
the wise realize Nibbana, the highest bliss.

Rice milk is a grain milk made from rice. It is mostly made from brown rice and commonly unsweetened. The sweetness in most rice milk varieties is generated by a natural enzymatic process, cleaving the carbohydrates into sugars, especially glucose, similar to the Japanese amazake.[1] Some rice milks may nevertheless be sweetened with sugarcane syrup or other sugars

Comparison to dairy milk

Compared to cow's milk, rice milk contains more carbohydrates, but does not contain significant amounts of calcium or protein, and no cholesterol or lactose. Commercial brands of rice milk are often fortified with vitamins and minerals, including calcium, vitamin B12, vitamin B3, and iron.
Rice milk is often consumed by people who are lactose intolerant, allergic to soy or have PKU. It is also used as a dairy substitute by vegans.

Preparation

Rice milk is made by pressing the rice through a mill using diffusion to strain out the pressed grains. It is sometimes also made at home using rice flour and brown rice protein, or by boiling brown rice with a large volume of water, blending and straining the mixture. Recipes are available on the internet.[3]

Drinking rice milk, whether that be in cereal, tea or just a glass, will not make you fat or overweight. Just like any other foods or beverages, if drunk too often and very little exercise then yes you may get fat but fat has other ways eg fast food and genetics. I have drank rice milk all my life and I am totally normal with a healthy BMI so its totally fine.

At 48 Im at a stage in my life where I want to cut back on as many animal products as a can. This is not only that Im thinking of my health but my move to reduce animal products is also conscience driven. After trying milk alternatives like soy, almond and rice milks, I have found that I like the taste of rice milk the best. Although I am still quite concerned that there are added trans-fats in these products. Can anybody tell me why they add trans-fats to these health food products?
